LESSON BREAKDOWN
WEEK ONE

Newborn Basics

PDF (12 pages) Video (8:22 Mins)

Before starting your journey into posing it’s important to learn the basics first. Stephanie begins the workshop by teaching you a series of natural newborn reflexes along with tips to avoid when coming across them during a session. From there we venture into settling techniques, physiological considerations, as then we will view a video of Stephanie in session demonstrating loose and a tight swaddling methods.

WEEK ONE

Session Prep

PDF (9 pages)

Helpful instruction in prepping parents prior to a session and readying your studio. Stephanie talks about heating instruction in-depth with important physical considerations and warning signs for babe. The positive or possible harmful effects of noise apps. Thoughts on various prop materials and a short introduction to beanbag basics. The lesson closes with important safety positive and common courtesy tips.

In this lesson we’re going to explore the techniques used in basic prone posing. The three main prone poses we will explore is the Taco pose, the Bum Up pose, and the Chin on the Wrists pose. For each pose in the course Stephanie will take you through general thoughts, precautions, supplies, setup and posing technique. The lesson is finished with a video of Stephanie prepping and completing the taco pose during a real session.

WEEK TWO

Side-Lying and Supine Posing

PDF (22 pages)

Here the traditional Side Lie position with the Face Feature as well as the Supine Curl and Wrapped shots are covered. As with the prone posing, each is covered with general thoughts, precautions, supplies, setup, and posing technique. Some techniques refer back to prone posing to build from what you’ve already learned. Pose refinements are discussed in detail as well as discussions on potential circulatory issues with babe and how to handle them.

WEEK THREE

The Art of the Composite

PDF (22 pages) Video (6:28 Mins)

Now it is time to address perhaps the most important topic in the newborn photography industry. Posing babies safely through utilizing properly achieved composites (multiple images overlaid to create one safely achieved complex pose). Stephanie will walk you through the Frog or Bunny pose, Potato Sac pose, and one version of a Suspended baby setup. As one would imagine, a lot of safety precautions are discussed.

WEEK THREE

Parent and Sibling Setups

PDF (21 pages)

In the final lesson Stephanie Robin will go over utilizing relational posing strategies to sometimes recover or maximize session profitability. When and how much to retouch in photoshop. Medical considerations and tips for monitoring mom. Supplies, setup, techniques, and a few different posing scenarios are detailed to help ensure a successful session. Positioning and some camera tips to achieve a great a great focus and tonal range are also covered.

WEEK FOUR *ALL-IN-ONE ONLY*

Advanced Swaddling

PDF (13 pages) Video (15:00 Mins)

In this lesson Stephanie will use a posing doll to demonstrate three simple swaddling techniques that result in complicated looking wraps and beautiful imagery. These advanced swaddles include the crisscross wrap, the knot wrap, and the button knot wrap. Refinement and correction techniques are also discussed to perfect the final result. This is a perfect way to boost your portfolio, artistic vision, and continue to build the ability to charge a premium price for your imagery.

WEEK FOUR *ALL-IN-ONE ONLY*

Transitioning Babe

PDF (15 pages) Video (13:00 Mins)

Learn to utilize 3-5 different poses to create a multitude of images, angles, compositions, & crops in a short 20-30 min burst of the session. Learn to increase portrait sales by choosing your posing workflow wisely. Stephanie approaches the transitions in step-by-step detail so you can learn to appropriately stabilize baby's positioning in the desirable manners while covering some brief physiologic reasoning of getting babe through the transitions without causing discomfort.

WEEK FOUR *ALL-IN-ONE ONLY*

Prepping Props

PDF (21 pages) Video (36:00 Mins)

This lesson will take you through four popular prop setups and provide you with important guidelines for size, tones, and safety when choosing your own future prop setups. The selections used for this example include the egg basket, the crate, the doll rocker, and the wicker bassinet. Stephanie will take you through each element of the setups in detail. She will share different posing techniques and transition strategy to achieve these highly popular and profitable shots.

Ummm, here's my review: PURE AWESOMENESS!

Guess what I can do now after taking Stephanie's workshop and practicing a bit? The Taco Pose! Guess what else? The Face Feature!! Working on the Froggy Pose now.

I have confidence in myself and my technique when posing newbies, which I did not have prior to the workshop. A wonderful business investment, and well worth every penny.

Thank you for the opportunity to learn from such an inspiring photographer. Stephanie's tutorials were very well written with easy to follow instructions. The pictures and videos were a wonderful bonus and really helped me to ensure that I was following her directions appropriately. It probably would have taken me at least another couple of years of learning/practicing/scouring the internet (or an $1800 workshop) to learn the poses that Stephanie taught.~ Sherri Peroni

Each lesson was written out with great detail and so easy to understand. The photos included in each lesson allowed you to reference and follow along as she did something like she was right there doing it with you! Thank goodness for SMART phones, I was able to pull up the lessons and reference as needed during my sessions! I loved that she showed everything from the set up to the final touches on the pose.

Being a participant I was able to post my images for critique and Stephane did great at giving honest CC on your images. As someone who really wants to learn and grow I always appreciate when people tell it like it is...I definitely don't need rainbows and butterflies!! She not only told you what was right and wrong but how to try and fix it!!

I still have a TON of practice to do but I feel like I have a base now and can really grow in the newborn field. ~ AWphotography

What is the difference between a participant and a follow along?

Is there homework?

Yes. Each week Stephanie includes homework with the lessons. The homework is optional but if you sign up as a participant for this workshop we strongly encourage you to schedule newborns or set aside time to complete the homework.

Lessons are not guaranteed but are typically released on Mondays and Wednesdays if you'd like to try and schedule accordingly.

Is there videos? Are they "live"? Can I keep them?

Yes, there is prerecorded videos. They are not live. You may not download them to keep but purchasing this workshop does give you 3 full months access to the videos to watch at the LSI forum. We also offer add-ons from time to time that allow additional access to the videos for a fee if desired.

Can anyone sign up?

If you offer a newborn workshop yourself or plan to in the immediate future then please do not sign up. Generally any others may sign up but occasionally an instructor may request that a few specific local competitors be excluded.

What if I don't have any newborns to practice on?

Many of our attendees in the past have not had a newborn to practice on and still really enjoy the course and learn a lot. Stephanie also provides instructions on how to go about creating a posing doll which can really work out great with the workshop.

Does Stephanie utilize real babies during the workshop or posing dolls?

Stephanie utilizes real babies in a session environment for everything but the Prepping Props, Advanced Swaddling, and Transitioning Babe lessons of the ALL-IN-ONE in which case she used a posing doll. Doing so enabled the videos to be better quality in those circumstances as Stephanie could focus more on the information she is relaying then if a live baby had been used for the demonstrations.

What is the difference between a participant and a follow along?

Participants have posting permissions so they are able to ask questions, post homework, and take advantage of Stephanie's image critiques if they choose. Follow alongs are allowed to view all of the same information including the q&a but they do not have posting access to participate.
